Rent, Food, and Utility Assistance - Supporting Texans in Harris, Galveston, and Brazoria Counties

Times are tough!  If you're going through a rough patch and need assistance with food, utilities, or rent, please check out the resources and organizations below.  This is a list in progress, and will be updated periodically.

Blessing Boxes - there may be a blessing box near you with food, toiletries, diapers, etc.  Click here to check the list.

DENTAL SERVICES - UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry has discounted rates, but this summer (2025) they have FREE dental cleanings for children ages 6 and up! They are located at 7500 Cambridge St., Houston, TX 77054.  You'll need to contact Jaqueline at 346-315-6129 to schedule an appointment.  Note there is a parking fee of $10, but the cleanings are freeeeeee!

PEARLAND - Pearland Neighborhood Center may be able to help with food, toiletries, baby items, rent and utility assistance.  They are located at 2335 N Texas Ave., Pearland, TX 77581.  Appointments may be required; check their website or call for more details and information.

PEARLAND - Christian Helping Hands may be able to help with food, rent assistance and utility assistance.  They are currently located at 3402 Swensen Dr., Pearland, TX 77581.  Please check their website for the times they are open.

MANVEL - The Well on Masters Road has a food pantry.  They are currently open to serve on Tuesdays, from 10am to 3pm.  They are located at 6911 Masters Road, Manvel, TX 77578.

FRIENDSWOOD - Mary Queen Catholic Church runs a food pantry, open daily Monday through Friday, and serves residents of Friendswood, Pearland (77581), and Alvin.  They may also be able to help with rent and utility assistance.

ALVIN - Alvin Community Food Pantry, located at 1212 South Durant St in Alvin, provides food on Wednesdays from 10am to 2pm as per their website.  Check their website for details.

LEAGUE CITY/WEBSTER/CLEAR LAKE/FRIENDSWOOD - Interfaith Caring Ministries has a food pantry, rent assistance, and utility assistance.  Visit their website to view the resources and support they offer, as well as locations and times they are open.  Residents in Friendswood ISD and Clear Creek ISD are eligible for assistance as well.

SOUTHEAST HOUSTON - Sagemont Church Helping Hands Ministry helps those in their community with food, counseling, job resources, etc.  They are located in the 77089 zip code in Houston.  For more information, call 281-922-6421 or visit their website.  

DEER PARK - Deer Park United Methodist Church has a food pantry that is open to Deer Park ISD residents.  You can visit their website to confirm times and locations; as of this post, they are open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 2pm.  They are located at 1300 E 13th St. in Deer Park.

LA PORTE - First Baptist Church of La Porte has the Bread of Life Food Pantry.   They are located at 902 West Main in La Porte.  They have a distribution each month, and you will need to register beforehand.  Visit their website for more details.

SOUTH HOUSTON - Southeast Area Ministries has food assistance, financial assistance, personal care items, and clothing and household assistance.  They are located at 2102 Houston Blvd., South Houston, TX.  Please visit their website for details of their programs and eligibility requirements.

PASADENA - Sunset United Methodist Church, located at 709 Allendale Rd. in Pasadena, has a drive thru food pantry from 9am to noon Monday through Wednesday.  Visit their website for more information.

PASADENA - South Avenue Baptist Church, located at 605 Preston Rd in Pasadena, has a food pantry open the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month.  Visit their website for updates and more information.

PASADENA - Queens Youth Center, located at 729 Queens Rd. in Pasadena, hosts free breakfast and lunch bags for kids Monday through Friday from 10:30am to 1:30pm.  Ongoing throughout the summer.

SANTA FE - HIS Ministries, located at 4205 Jackson St. in Santa Fe, offers a food pantry to residents of Santa Fe and Hitchcock, as well as other resources.  Visit their website for more information.

DICKINSON - The M I Lewis Social Service Center has resources including a food pantry, emergency financial assistance, senior food delivery, school supply assistance, and more.  They are located at 245FM 517 E, Dickinson, TX 77539.  To get more information, visit their website, or call 281-534-2043.

GALVESTON COUNTY - If you live in Galveston County, the Galveston County Food Bank has several resources, including food pantries and mobile food pantries.  There's a calendar each month to show where the mobile food pantry will be each day.

GALVESTON - Beacon of Hope Isle Market, located at 4700 Broadway, provides food assistance.  Please note you do need to make an appointment, where then you can shop for your own groceries.  Click here, or call 409-762-2064 for more information or to make an appointment.

GALVESTON - St. Vincent's House has many resources, including food, rent assistance, transportation, medical and dental clinics, and counseling.  The best thing to do is check their website so you can get details for your specific needs, just click here.  They are located at 2817 Post Office, Galveston, TX 77550.

WEST HOUSTON - West Houston Assistance Ministries assists with food, clothing, and financial assistance.  Please note they only serve certain zip codes in West Houston.  Visit their website for more information - you may have to apply online as well.

KATY - People in and around the Katy Area can get help through Katy Christian Ministries.  Resources include a food pantry, mobile food locations, financial assistance, baby items, and much more.  Visit their website for a full description of the services they offer, locations, times, etc. 

RICHMOND - The Mamie George Community Center offers appointment where you can come in and shop for your own groceries.  They are located at 1111 Collins Road, Richmond, TX 77469.  You can make an appointment by clicking here, or call 281-202-6200.

FREEPORT - Brazosport Cares has a food pantry.  Please check their website for dates and times.  They are located at 916 North Gulf Blvd., Freeport, TX 77541.

CLUTE / BRAZORIA COUNTY - Brazoria County Dream Center has a food pantry and programs like back to school, Christmas assistance, and more.  Visit their website for more information.

ANGLETON / DANBURY / ROSHARON - Most Holy Trinity Church has a food pantry, the Saint Thomas Food Pantry, which serves residents of Angleton, Danbury, and Rosharon.  Be sure and check dates and times they are open.

GALVESTON, BRAZORIA, HARRIS COUNTIES - BakerRipley has a utility assistance program for residents of these counties.  Visit their website for more details, as requirements can change.

HOUSTON - The Houston Food Bank provides a variety of food assistance resources.  You can call them at 832-369-9390, visit their website, or even get their app.  

HOUSTON - SPRING BRANCH - First Baptist Church of Houston's Faith Center has a food pantry and clothes closet.  This location is at 8244 Long Point Road in Houston.  You will need to call and make an appointment prior to your visit.  Please visit their website for more information.

HOUSTON - 77036 ZIP CODE - First Baptist Church of Houston's Faith Center has a food pantry at 5860 Ranchester Drive.  You will need to make an appointment prior to your visit.  Please visit their website for days, times, and more information.

HOUSTON - 77003 ZIP CODE - Catholic Charities has food distribution at the Guadalupe Center Market, located at 326 S Jensen Drive, Houston, TX 77003.  While they have a drive through distribution as well as a walk-in pantry, there are specific times and days.  Please check their website for updated information by clicking here.  You can also call them at 713-251-6919 for more information.

HOUSTON - Target Hunger has drive thru food fairs across the Houston area, particularly the east side of town.  Click here to check their website of days, times, and locations of where they will be.  You will need to register either online or at the site prior to receiving food.

CYPRESS - Cypress Assistance Ministries offers an array of services to residents in the zip codes of 77429, 77433, 77065, 77095.  You'll need to meet with an Assistance Counselor prior to receiving services, which you can make an appointment by calling 281-955-7684.  Services offered include a Food Pantry, Job Seeker Services, Clothing and Household Goods, GED classes, ESL classes, and Utility/Rent Assistance. 

LONE STAR COLLEGES - If you are a registered student of Lone Star College, most campuses have a food pantry for students! Links for each campus are here:  Montgomery  Kingwood  CyFair  Tomball  North Harris  Houston North  

HARRIS COUNTY - Reliant Energy has a "Beat the Heat" portable air conditioner program for eligible seniors, disabled individuals, and families that are not able to cool their homes.  For more information, call 832-393-4301.  

HOUSTON, GALVESTON, AND SURROUNDING AREAS - Catholic Charities has a lot of resources and information.  The best thing to do is check their website here for updated information and what specifically you need assistance with.  They offer assistance in the areas of food, utilities, rent, counseling, pregnancy, and so much more.

TEXAS STATEWIDE - Texas residents can apply for utility assistance by going to Texas Utility Help.  There are some requirements you have to meet to qualify.  This program is administered by the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, and can help with utilities such as electricity, gas, propane, water, and wastewater.  

TEXAS STATEWIDE - Texas homeowners and renters can apply for utility assistance with Texas Homewoners Assistance.  Texas homeowners can also apply for assistance with mortgages, property insurance, HOA fees, and more.  For utility assistance, click here.  For other homeowner assistance such as mortgages, click here.  You can also call 833-651-3874.
